In all seriousness, my deepest condolences to the Left Wingers here on the capture of your adopted hero Saddam Hussein. Obviously this is a very bad day for Jack Dee, Radio Free Costa Rica, Eek, Grantt, Lander, The General, Danny May, D2whatever the hell his name is, and some of the other left wingers here. BUT, the good news for you guys is that you still have Osama Bin Laden to rally behind, and if we ever capture him, you can always go back to the simple, time honored tradition of rooting for Palestinians to blow up Israelis.

Hope you SCUMBAGS enjoy another 4 YEARS of GW!!!

SJ... you left some names out but 2 that come to mind imediatley is Howard "the duck" Dean.
And Al Gore.

Now what kind of judgement would have come from Al Gore the last 3 years based on who he is backing from last week?....Oh my God!!

*sigh*

I know of no other Liberal-minded people who claim that Saddam is their "adopted hero."

Is it any wonder that intelligent debate is so difficult around here? Since when is politics this black-and-white??

In an earlier thread, I claimed that I thought Saddam was an asshole, that Osama was an asshole, and that Bush is also an asshole. Well, one down, two to go, in my view.

And you'll note in another thread that I believe that to be the case.

The propaganda and flag-waving that will be the inevitable result of this is disturbing, however. By 8 am this morning, Bush was considered a hero in many people's minds. But, absolutely, no question, Saddam's capture will ease the minds of Iraqis opposed to him.

Haha ... I read a great line recently: Fighting for peace is alot like screwing for virginity.

And, actually, yes, now that you mention it, I kinda do look like my avatar. Well, except for the fact that I'm not animated.

Patriot: tread lightly. You certainly don't want to get me started on my feminist soapbox. You wouldn't stand a chance.

Dude,

The soldiers actually fighting this war captured him. You had nothing to do with it. therefore, the term "WE" does not apply. Its funny how you guys always say "WE" captured so and so. That is just it - when we go to war you get to feel like a big bad man for once. I am glad they captured Saddam. Too bad the man who was actually responsible for 9/11 has not been captured. You know - the guy who is " going to hear from us all real soon" LMAO. What a joke.

Of course, the U.S. has a stronger military than Iraq. That was never in question. Noone really questioned the oitcome of this war. The fact that the U.S. is winning doesnt in any way justify it. There are no WMD's. Iraq got rid of them. Even your side is beginning to admit that and desperatly trying to change its reasons for the war. Bush said Iraq had WMD's and Saddam said they didnt. Bush was the liar. Plain and simple. You cant even try to deny that.

XPanda,

If you truly one of the few remaining left wingers who can discuss foreign policy disagreements on a civil basis, unlike nearly all of the leftists on this forum, then I apologize to you for the comment I made about this being a sad day for ALL leftists.

Once upon a time, people on the right and left of the political spectrum could discuss legitimate disgareements in a civil and restrained manner, perhaps you and I could do so in the future. Unfortunately, many of the people on your side of the political spectrum would rather call President Bush "Hitler" and a "terrorist" while taking almost a bizarre glee at every setback the US forces have suffered over the past several months. With the political left behaving in this fashion, we on the right occasionally give into baser impulses as well, which is equally wrong and regrettable. But please understand my frustration at dealing with people who accuse the US of purposefully targeting civilians and calling us Nazis while they gleefully make excuses for Palestinian and other terrorism.

By the way,

Bremer said today the former Iraqi leader is now a Prisoner of War.

Yet I have seen his picture everywhere.

Hmmm. What happened to Bush crying about how wrong it is to show POW's.

Our gov't shows dead bodies, but whines when the other side shows POW's. What hypocrites.

Patriot,

Just because you wished the worst upon the U.S. during the 8 years of Clinton's presidency, doesnt mean that Democrats do it.

Now I am going to the Colts game and it starts in less than 2 hours. We have to get on the road, its a 45 minute drive.

Danny May,

I can assure you that no conservatives took joy at the deaths of US soldiers in Somalia, Bosnia or other places that Clinton sent them during his tenure. Your side of the political spectrum cannot make the same claim. Even a respected columnist for Salon.com admitted that he was, against his own better judgment, secretly hoping that the US had a tougher time than expected in Iraq. Also, go read the posts at www.democraticunderground and see the proof. Then try and locate a conservative site that rooted against the US military during the Clinton era.

I'm happy for the Iraqi people. Capturing Saddam hardly changes the fact that the war was strategic idiocy in its conception and post-war planning. This does not make us in the US any any safer as Saddam was never a threat to us.

Patriot: as a die-hard Colts fan, I welcome yet another opportunity to debate with you ...

SanJose: no offense taken, it never was. I am a big lover of political debates, and, frankly, don't even consider myself leftist. Canadian and American politics are very different; ours, by virtue of a strong social fabric and having three political parties instead of only two, make ours much less black and white. My anti-war sentiment is much more a product of being female than anything else, and I tend to stand up for all sides of the pro-peace debate. On 9/11, I was glued to my television set, and actually had several moments of tears. Civilian deaths in the name of politics are abominable no matter who is behind it. I feel for the average American who has to reconcile feelings of extreme hatred for the Middle East as a direct result, while at the same time balancing their new-found ability to relate to being a victim of terrorism.

Isn't it funny how when they are removed from power and access to the trappings of office, all these old tyrants look so old, tired, and pathetic? Ceacescu and Milosevic come to mind in addition to Hussein. You could never believe that these regular looking old men would be capable of the crimes they're accused of. But I guess appearances are deceiving - I am glad they have caught him and I hope he answers for his crimes.
